Parasal ve toplumsal bir olay haline gelen turizm, yarattığı ekonomik, sosyal, kültürel ve politik etkilerle ülke ekonomilerinde, uluslararası ekonomik ve politik ilişkilerde önemli sonuçlar doğurmaktadır. Turizm sektörü ile turizm harcamaları, genel olarak tüm ülkeler açısından önem taşımakta, özellikle cari açığı fazla olan birçok ülkenin ekonomisine büyük katkı sağlayabilmektedir. Bu çalışmada ele alınan turizmle ilgili değişkenlere göre Akdeniz Ülkeleri’nin benzerlikleri veya farklılıkları belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla benzerlikleri temel alınarak ülkeler, iki veya daha fazla gruba bölünerek, çok boyutlu ölçekleme analizi yapılmıştır. Böylece, birinci boyutta İspanya, Fransa, İtalya ve Türkiye öteki ülkelerden açık bir farkla ayrışmıştır. İkinci boyutta diğer Akdeniz Ülkeleri yer almıştır. Farklılık matrisinde Karadağ ile Cezayir, Karadağ ile Bosna Hersek, Hırvatistan ile Malta sıfıra yakın değerlerle birbirine benzerlik göstermişlerdir. Birbirine en az benzeyen ülkeler Fransa ile Cezayir’dir. Türkiye’nin, en çok benzerlik gösterdiği ülke İspanya’dır. Türkiye’nin turizm açısından, kullanılan değişkenlere ve içinde bulunduğu boyuta göre oldukça iyi bir pozisyona sahip olduğu görülmektedir.
Tourism has become a monetary and social event with economic, social, cultural and political activities, it creates important results in national economies and international economic and political relations. For all countries, tourism sector and tourism expenditures are important and can contribute greatly to the economy of many countries that have high current account deficits. In this study the similarities or differences of tourism variables in Mediterranean countries have been tried to be determined. For this purpose, countries were divided into two or more groups based on their similarities and multidimensional scaling analysis was performed. Thus, the unknown relations between objects (countries) could be identified by using distances between objects. Accordingly, in the first dimension, the size of Spain, France, Italy and Turkey are separated by a substantial margin from other countries, while the other countries are in the second. Looking at the difference matrix, Montenegro and Algeria, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Malta were identified as similar countries with values close to zero. France and Algeria were identified as least similar countries. Turkey was identified as most similar to Spain. In terms of tourism Turkey has a quite good position according to the variables used in the analysis and the dimension in which Turkey is located.
