In recent years, there have been considerable advances in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus. One of these advances is the application of an insulin pump. The application of insulin pump requires a high-level of compliance of the individual with Type I Diabetes Mellitus to the management of the disease and insulin pump. In the adaptation model developed by Nurse Callista Roy, the individual uses coping strategies to adapt to various stimuli, and responds to stimuli with his/her behaviors. The compliant responses are intended to improve the integrity of the individual, whereas noncompliant responses have a negative impact on this integrity. According to Roy, the goal of nursing is to improve the compliant responses of the individual. In this case report, the use of Roy's Adaptation Model was discussed regarding the solution of compliance to insulin pump problems encountered in the nursing care of an 18-years-old adolescent patient with Diabetes Mellitus Type I for 15 years.
