Tasarım disiplinlerinde kullanılan mevcut yöntemler içinde en çok tercih edilen tasarım odaklı düşünme, fikir üretmek ve geliştirmek üzerine kurgulanmış çoklu basamaklardan oluşan döngüsel bir yaklaşımdır. Bu çalışmanın odak noktasını oluşturan zihin haritaları tasarım odaklı düşünme tekniğinin ilk basamağında yer alan fikir geliştirme sürecinde kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı 2021-2022 eğitim döneminde sunum tasarımı dersini alan görsel iletişim tasarımı bölümü ikinci sınıf üniversite öğrencilerinin tasarım fikri geliştirme süreçlerinde zihin haritası kullanmanın etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmış ve gözlem ile desteklenmiştir. Harita geliştirme süresinde arka plan araştırmaları zenginleştirilerek öğrencilerin farkındalıkları artırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Zihin haritalarında görsel metaforlar kullanma ve konuya uygun tipografik düzenleme ölçüt olarak belirlenmiş, bu doğrultuda haritalar geliştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın bulguları zihin haritalama tekniğinin araştırmaya katılan öğrenciler tarafından daha önceden bilinmediğini ve herhangi bir alanda kullanılmadığını ortaya koymuştur. Sonuç olarak zihin haritalarının üniversite öğrencilerinin fikir geliştirme süreçlerinin verimini artırdığı, fikirlerini görselleştirmenin başkaları tarafından anlaşılmalarını kolaylaştırdığı ve proje sunumlarında kendilerini ifade edebilme yetilerini artırdığı tespit edilmiştir.
The most popular among the existing methods used in design disciplines is a cyclic approach consisting of multiple stages founded on design-focused thinking, creating and developing ideas. The mind maps that make up the focus of this study have been used in the idea development process in the first stage of the design-focused thinking technique. The purpose of the research is to reveal the impact of the use of mind maps in the design ideas development processes of second-class university students in the visual communication design department, which takes the presentation design course in the 2021-2022 academic period. In the research, the visual method was used and supported by observation. During the map development period, background research has been enriched to increase the awareness of students. Mental maps are defined as the standard of using visual metaphors and typographical editing according to the subject, and maps are developed in this direction. The findings of the study showed that the mind maping technique was not previously known by the students involved in the research and was not used in any field. As a result, it has been found that mind maps increase the efficiency of university students’ ideas development processes, facilitate their ideas to be understood by others, and increase their ability to express themselves in project presentations.

Mind maps, which form the focus of this study, were used in the idea development process, which is in the first step of the design thinking technique. The aim of the research is to reveal the effect of using mind maps in the design idea development process of second year university students of visual communication design who took the presentation design course in the 2021-2022 academic year. The descriptive method was used in the research and it was supported by observation. During the map development process, it was tried to increase the awareness of the students by enriching the background research. Using visual metaphors in mind maps and typographic arrangement suitable for the subject were determined as criteria, and maps were developed in this direction. The findings of the study revealed that the mind mapping technique was not previously known by the students participating in the research and was not used in any field. As a result, it has been determined that mind maps increase the efficiency of university students' idea development processes, visualizing their ideas makes it easier for others to understand and increase their ability to express themselves in project presentations.
