Abstract:

As a result of the transformations the television passes over time, the experience of watching also changes, new practices of watching appear. The first use of the binge-watching concept, which sends many parts of a series to follow-up, begins with the appearance of DVDs. But with this practical digitalization it becomes widespread with the tracking of the series through the internet. The concept of excessive tracking has been identified today with Netflix and other demand-related image services (VOD) platforms. In this study, an increasing experience of monitoring in Turkey, the over-sighting practice was studied by collecting data with the focus group conversation method. The participants have been trying to understand why and how they do over-tracking and over-tracking opinions. While the participants expressed their opinions about the experience of excessive monitoring in the interviews, they expressed that excessive monitoring causes time losing, tiredness, humility, and addiction. But despite their negative opinions about this monitoring experience, participants have seen that they prefer to do excessive monitoring for reasons such as focusing, not taking spoilers, participating in talks about series, evaluating their free time, escaping from the agenda.
