Abstract:

The elderly population is rapidly increasing as a result of socio-economic, medical and technological developments all over the world. Increasing elderly population has become one of the global problems of today's world. Turkey is hosting one of the countries in this problem. With the transition from traditional family structure to modern family structure, the participation of women in business life and the decrease in fertility, family elders were pushed out of nuclear family life. This leads to medical economic and psychosocial problems, especially housing. According to the population projections, Izmir is a province where the highest rate among the elderly in Turkey’s three largest city. The aim of the study; It is to make the life experiences of individuals over 60 years old living in a rest house in Izmir and going to a day care center visible. For this purpose, the research has a qualitative research method is about elderly people living in a municipal day-care center and private nursing home in nursing. A total of 19 elderly individuals participated in the study and the selection of these participants was determined by the criteria of individuals over 60 age and volunteering. Interviews were made with individuals using a semi-structured in-depth interview technique and the data were created by thematic content analysis with MAXQDA18. As a result of the research, the themes of “social experiences”, “experiences of loneliness”, “experiences of the institution”, “experiences of Izmir” and “suggestions” came to the fore in the focus of being elderly in İzmir.
