İLKOKUL ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN PROBLEM ÇÖZME BECERİLERİNİN VE STEME YÖNELİK TUTUMLARININ İNCELENMESİ

Abstract:

Araştırmanın amacı ilkokul 3. ve 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin STEM (fen, teknoloji, mühendislik, matematik) tutum ve problem çözme becerisini sınıf düzeyi ve cinsiyete göre incelemektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini İstanbul ili Kartal ilçesinde ilkokul 3. ve 4. Sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan 344 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama ile araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada STEM tutum ölçeği ve çocuklar için problem çözme envanteri veri toplama aracı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sınıf düzeyine göre sonuçlarda; 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin STEM tutumlarının ve STEM alt boyutlarında fen ile matematikte alanlarına yönelik tutumlarının yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında problem çözme becerisinde ve alt boyutlarında sınıf düzeyinde anlamlı farklılık göstermediği belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın cinsiyete göre elde edilen sonuçlarında; STEM tutumlarında farklılık olmadığı belirlenirken, STEM alt boyutlarında mühendislik alanına yönelik erkek öğrencilerin tutumlarının lehine anlamlı farklılık olduğu belirlenmiştir. Problem çözme becerisi ve alt boyutlarında cinsiyete göre anlamlı farklılık olmadığı belirlenmiştir.

Abstract:

The aim of the research is to examine the attitude towards STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and problem solving skills of primary school 3rd and 4th grade students according to grade level and gender. The sample of the study consists of 344 students who are studying in the 3rd and 4th grades of primary school in Kartal district of Istanbul. The research was carried out with correlational survey model which was one of the quantitative research methods. STEM Attitude Scale and Problem Solving Inventory for Children were used as data collection tools in the study. According to the grade level results obtained from the research; it was determined that 4th grade students’ attitudes towards STEM and science and mathematics in which STEM sub-dimensions were high. In addition, it was determined that there was no significant difference in problem solving skills and sub-dimensions at the grade level. The results of the research according to gender; while it was determined that there was no difference in attitudes towards STEM, it was determined that there was a significant difference in STEM sub-dimensions in favor of the attitudes of male students towards engineering. It was determined that there was no significant difference in problem solving skills and sub-dimensions according to gender.
