Abstract:

The negative effects of stress on people are increasing day by day in the modern world we live in. Career choice also affects individuals as a source of stress. Situations where uncertainty is experienced can have the effect of increasing this stress even more. It is thought that individuals who avoid uncertainty are more likely to experience career stress. From this point of view, the effect of uncertainty avoidance on career stress was examined in this study. In the study, in which the quantitative research method was used, a sample of 234 students from Düzce University Insurance and Social Security Department was formed by convenience sampling. Questionnaire was used as data collection tool. The data were analyzed using the SPSS23 program. As a result of the research, it was seen that the university students in the sample were not very high in career stress and they experienced moderate career stress. The biggest source of career stress is the pressure felt in terms of finding a job and the difficulties that are thought to be experienced in finding a job. The uncertainty avoidance tendency of the participants is slightly above the middle and the uncertainty avoidance tendency affects career stress. Uncertainty avoidance is a variable that has a decisive effect on the job pressure dimension of career stress.
