Urban transformation is a multifaceted process that affects every part of society. With urban transformation, only houses are not physically transformed, social and spatial changes are also occurring. This study aims to investigate the social and spatial changes that occur together with urban transformation in two different neighborhoods where the urban transformation projects completed in Istanbul Gaziosmanpaşa are involved. In this direction, the 10 percent of the housing numbers completed by urban transformation projects in the Sarıgöl and Yıldıztabya districts located in Gaziosmanpaşa, taking into account a total of 105 people, the survey was implemented by the method of individual conversation and these surveys were supported by observations and interviews. The results of the survey are evaluated using the SPSS program and the results are interpreted in graphics. According to the findings obtained from the surveys, neighbouring residents are pleased with the renovation of their houses as a result of urban transformation, the earthquake resistance and the solution of property problems. But the promises that were given were not kept, the projects were not completed in time, problems such as debt left the rightholders in difficulty. In social and cultural terms, it is also difficult to get used in the practices of urban transformation in which the transformation occurs, especially in the new places that the old neighborhood inhabitants become material and spiritual.

Urban transformation is a multifaceted process that affects all segments of society. With the urban transformation, not only the houses are transformed physically but also social and spatial changes. With this study, it is aimed to investigate the social and spatial changes that occur with urban transformation in two different neighborhoods where urban transformation projects are completed in Istanbul Gaziosmanpaşa. In this respect, a survey was conducted with 115 people on a one-to-one basis by taking into account 10% of the number of residences completed by urban transformation projects in the Sarıgöl and Yıldıztabya districts of Gaziosmanpaşa, which was determined as the study area, and surveys were supported by observations and interviews. The results of the survey were evaluated with SPSS program. As a results of the urban transformation, the residents of the neighborhood are happy with the renovation of their houses, the earthquake resistance and the solution of property problems. However, problems such as failure to keep promises, timely completion of projects and borrowing have left the holders in a difficult position. In addition, in urban transformation practices where socio-cultural changes are experienced, especially the old neighborhood residents have difficulty in getting used to the new spaces transformed materially and morally.
