Abstract:

Günümüzde bireyler yoğun bir şekilde medya mesajlarına maruz kalmaktadırlar ve yaşamlarını medyadan edindikleri bilgilere göre şekillendirir olmuşlardır. Bu nedenle medyadan gelen mesajların, doğru algılanabilmesi için bir (bilişsel) süzgeçten geçirilmesi zorunluluk haline gelmiştir. Bunu yapabilmek için de medyayı doğru okumaya, yani medya okur yazarlığına ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Medya okuryazarlığı, kitle iletişim araçlarının farklı format ve özelliklerdeki mesajlarını alma, anlama ve değerlendirme kabiliyeti olarak açıklanabilir. Medya okuryazarlığı, kişiye, medyayı kullanma, medya iletilerini doğru anlama, mesajlara karşı kontrollü olma ve zararlı içeriklerden kendisini koruyabilme yeteneği kazandırır. Yeni medya, her bir kullanıcının aynı zamanda birer dağıtıcı pozisyonunda olması sebebiyle, bilgi kirliğinin çok fazla yaşandığı bir mecradır. Giderek yaygınlaşan ve her geçen gün daha çok kullanıcının dahil olduğu bu yeni iletişim mecralarında insanların zarar görme ihtimali artmıştır. Bu yüzden bireylerin bu ortamlardan zarar görmemesini sağlamak elzem hale gelmiştir. Bu çalışma, yeni medya okuryazarlığının artırılmasının bireysel ve toplumsal açıdan öneminin değerlendirilmesini amaçlamaktadır.

Abstract:

Today, individuals are intensely exposed to media messages and have been shaping their lives according to the information they obtain from the media. Therefore, the message from the media has become necessary to pass through a (knowledgeable) logic to be perceived. To do this, it is also necessary to read the media correctly, i.e. the media reader literature. Media literature can be described as the ability to receive, understand and evaluate messages in different formats and features of mass media. Media literacy gives the person the ability to use the media, to understand the media messages correctly, to be controlled against the messages and to protect himself from harmful content. The new media is a place where information pollution is too much, because each user is also in a distribution position. The possibility of people being damaged in these new communications mechanisms, where more and more users are involved every day, has increased. This is why it is necessary to ensure that people are not damaged by these environments. This study aims to assess the importance of increasing new media literacy from an individual and social point of view.

For this reason, a (cognitive) filter has become a necessity for the messages coming from the media to be perceived correctly. In order to do this, it is necessary to read the media correctly, which is called media literacy. Media literacy can be explained as the ability of mass media to receive, understand and evaluate messages of different formats and features. Media literacy gives the person the ability to use media, to understand media messages correctly, to be in control against the messages and to protect himself from harmful content. The new media is a channel where information pollution is very much experienced because each user is also in a publishing position. In these new communication channels, which are becoming increasingly widespread and more and more users are involved, people are more likely to suffer. It is therefore essential to ensure that individuals are not harmed by these environments. This study aims to evaluate the importance of new media literacy in terms of individual and social aspects.
