Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler Dersine Ve Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenine Karşı Tutumları İle Akademik Başarıları Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı; ortaokul öğrencilerinin sosyal bilgiler dersine yönelik tutumları üzerinde etkili olan değişkenleri belirlemenin yanı sıra öğrencilerin öğretmenlerine karşı olan tutumlarının, sosyal bilgiler dersine yönelik tutumları ve akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; Sivas il merkezinde bulunan ortaokul kurumlarının altıncı ve yedinci sınıflarında öğrenim gören 479 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Öğrencilerin 250’si altıncı sınıfta, 237’si yedinci sınıfta öğrenim görmektedir. Öğrencilerin; sosyal bilgiler dersine karşı tutumlarının, sınıfa, yaşa, cinsiyete, kitap okuma sıklıklarına, annelerinin ve babalarının eğitim seviyelerine, aylık gelirlerine, özel ders alıp almamalarına, bilgisayarlarının, çalışma odalarının olup olmamasına ve öğrencinin bir yıl önceki karne notuna göre başarısının farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmada, Demir ve Akengin (2010) tarafından geliştirilen sosyal bilgiler tutum ölçeği ve on beş sorudan oluşan kişisel bilgi formu uygulanarak veriler toplanmıştır. Veri toplama araçlarının uygulanmasından sonra, elde edilen veriler, PASW 18 paket programı kullanılarak bilgisayar ortamında istatistiksel işleme tabi tutulmuş; bu bağlamda veriler üzerinde betimsel istatistikler, t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizleri yapılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin derse yönelik ve öğretmene yönelik tutumları ile akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla Pearson Momentler çarpımı korelasyon istatistikleri kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizlerle öğrencilerin sosyal bilgiler dersine ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenine yönelik tutumları farklı değişkenler açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak öğrencilerin derse ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerine karşı tutumları ile akademik başarıları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir.

The aim of this study is to identify the variables that influence the attitudes of high school students towards social information course, as well as to study the relationship between their attitudes towards their teachers, their attitudes towards social information course and their academic achievements. The study group consists of 479 students studying in the sixth and seventh classes of high school institutions located in the center of the province of Sivas. 250 of the students are studying in the sixth class, 237 in the seventh class. Students’ attitudes towards the social information course, class, age, gender, reading frequency, their mothers and fathers’ educational levels, their monthly income, whether they take private classes, whether they have computers, working rooms, and whether their success was different from the student’s a year ago’s master score. In the study, the data were collected by the application of the social information attitude scale developed by Iron and Akengin (2010) and the personal information form consisting of fifteen questions. After the implementation of data collection tools, the obtained data was subjected to statistical processing in the computer environment using the PASW 18 package program; in this context, the data was carried out with visual statistics, t-test and one-way variance analysis. Pearson Moments is also used to determine the relationship between students’ class-oriented and teacher-oriented attitudes and academic achievements. Through the analysis, students’ attitudes towards the social information course and the social information teacher have been evaluated in terms of different variables. As a result, it has been established that there is a meaningful relationship between the students’ attitudes and social knowledge to their teachers and their academic achievements.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between learners’ academic achievement and their attitudes towards social studies lesson and the teacher and to identify variables that are influential in secondary school students’ attitudes towards social studies lesson. The study sample was composed of 479 students studying in the sixth (N=250) and seventh grades (N=237) at secondary school in the provincial area of Sivas. The researchers sought to identify whether the students’ attitudes towards social studies lesson vary with respect to grade levels, age, gender, frequency of reading, parents’ educational background, monthly income, whether they are privately tutored, whether they have a private room and a computer, and the students’ previous grades for this lesson.. In this study, the data were collected using the Social Studies Attitude Scale, developed by Demir & Akengin (2010), and the personal information form that consisted of fifteen items. After the data collection tools were administered, the data obtained were analyzed using PASW 18 using descriptive statistics, t-test and one-way ANOVA. In addition, Pearson conduct moment correlation was used to determine the relationship between the students’ academic achievement and their attitudes towards the lesson, the teacher. The students’ attitudes towards the social studies lesson and the teacher were analyzed with respect to different variables. As a result, it was found that there was a significant correlation between the students’ academic achievement and their attitudes towards the lesson and the social studies teacher.
