Selendi İlçesi, Manisa’nın merkezden uzak, kültürel değişikliklerin en az olduğu, geleneklerine sıkı sıkıya bağlı ilçeleri arasındadır. Bu nedenle ilçede geleneksel tedavi yöntemlerinin çokça uygulandığı görülmektedir. Selendi’nin özellikle köylerinde bir kişi rahatsızlık geçirdiğinde doktora gitmeden önce atalarından, büyüklerinden gördüğü tedavi yöntemlerini tercih etmektedir. Hasta olan kişi, önce geleneksel tedavi yöntemlerini denedikten sonra doktora gitmekte veya modern tıbbın çare bulamadığı durumlarda geleneksel yöntemlere başvurmaktadır. İlçe halkının başka nedenlerle de ocaklara veya halk hekimlerine başvurduğu görülmektedir. Bunların başında ekonomik nedenler, eğitimsizlik, çevredeki ocaklarda hastalığın iyileştiğine şahit olunması, bazı hastalıklarda modern tıbba ve doktora güvensizlik gibi sebeplere bağlı olarak halk hekimliği yöntemlerinden faydalanılmaktadır. Ocak kültürü kuşaktan kuşağa aktarılarak günümüze kadar ulaşan önemli bir gelenektir. Selendi yöresinde de hastalara şifa veren ocaklar oldukça yaygındır. İlçede tespit edilen ocaklar, tek bir hastalığın tedavisi ile uğraştıkları gibi bazen birden fazla hastalığın da tedavisini yapmaktadırlar. Yaptığımız yazılı kaynak ve alan araştırmaları sonucunda Selendi yöresinde aktif olarak sağaltım yapan çok sayıda ocak olduğu görülmüştür. Bu nedenle ocakların hangi hastalıkları tedavi ettiği saha çalışması yapılarak tespit edilmiştir.
Selendi is one of the districts that Manisa is far from the center, with little cultural changes, closely connected to its traditions. Therefore, it is seen that traditional treatments are widely applied. When a person in Selendi’s villages is discomforted, he prefers the methods of treatment he sees from his ancestors before he goes to the doctor. The patient goes to the doctor first after trying the traditional methods of treatment or applying to the traditional methods in cases where modern medicine cannot find a remedy. The first people appear to be referred to to in January or to public doctors for other reasons. These are mainly economic reasons, uneducation, witnessing the healing of the disease in the surrounding areas, and some diseases are used by public medicine methods, depending on causes such as modern medicine and the uncertainty of the doctor. January culture is an important tradition that has been translated from generation to generation to today. In the area of Selendi, healing for patients is quite common. The locals identified in the district, as they deal with the treatment of a single disease, sometimes they do the treatment of several diseases. The source and field research we have done has shown that there are a lot of people who are actively supplied in the area of Selendi. Therefore, it is determined by the field study which diseases they treat.
Selendi District is among the Manisa’s districts, which are far from the city center, have least cultural alteration, and stick to their customs. Therefore, it is observed that traditional treatment methods are applied frequently. Especially in the villages of Selendi, when a person has a disorder, before seeing a doctor, s/he prefers treatment methods, which s/he learned, from his/her ancestors and elders. The person having a disorder sees a doctor after trying traditional treatment methods, or refers traditional methods in case of modern medicine finding no way. It is also observed that the district’s folk apply to centers or folk healers with other reasons. Foremost among them come financial reasons, uneducatedness, being witness to treatment of illness at surrounding centers, making use of folk medicine methods based on reasons such as distrust fullness to modern medicine and doctors for some of the illnesses. Center culture is an important custom which arrived today by being handed down from generation to generation. Centers, which treat patients, are quite common in Selendi region, too. Stated centers in the district are busy with only one illness’ treatment as well as several illnesses’ treatments. According to the research held by us, it is observed that the centers, which treat actively in Selendi region, are becoming rich. Therefore, the centers treat which illnesses are determined by doing a field study.
