During the second half of the 19th Century -after the Tanzimat-, in the Ottoman State, considerable reforms have been performed on economic and financial fields. The economic and fiscal integration process in the Ottoman State with European coumtries was accelerated in this century, in this context banking sector started to develop in Ottoman State, as Ottoman Bank with British capital, was founded in 1856. After French capital participated to Ottoman Bank in 1863, it was named Banque Imperial Ottomane-Imperial Ottoman Bank. After that time besides banking activities, government banking function came forward and the bank acted like central bank of Ottoman until 1933. It is the bank which is long-lived in the Turkish bank history, serving until 2001. The activities of Ottoman Bank as central banking, investment banking and commercial banking in the 19th Century in Ottoman financial system is investigated in this study.
