Abstract:

The purpose of the present study was to reveal the perceptions of students, teachers, parents and administrators regarding the school director with the help of metaphors. For this purpose, the participants were asked to produce metaphors related to the concept of “school director”. In this qualitatively-designed study, the phenomenological method was used. The study group included secondary school students, teachers, administrators and parents from a total of eight primary schools in the city of Tokat and in the surrounding villages of this city in the academic year of 2009-2010. The research data were collected by asking the participants to complete the statement “the school director is like ……. because ……..”. For the analysis of the data, the content analysis method was used. As a result of the study, it was found that the metaphors produced 5 times or over included positive perceptions and that the participants’ overall perceptions regarding the school director were positive. The school directors were mostly considered to be those who protect the students and the teachers, who try hard to establish an environment of confidence at school and who act as a guide and leader for the students. The findings demonstrated that the students regarded the school directors as a negative factor that the teachers and administrators regarded the school directors as a guide and a leader and that the parents regarded the school directors as a protector who gives assurance
