Modernleşme olgusu ile birlikte toplumun gündelik hayat pratikleri de değişim/dönüşüm göstermektedir. Türkiye'nin çok partili hayata geçiş sürecinde değişen modernleşme politikaları ile doğru orantılı olarak, gündelik hayatı da değişim göstermiştir. Modernleşmenin sadece siyasal değil, ekonomik, kentsel ve toplumsal bir süreç olarak ele alınması, siyasanın değişiminin modernleşen toplumdaki ekonomik ve sosyo-kültürel dönüşümleri de ortaya çıkardığı görüşünden, 1950'li yıllardaki gündelik hayat pratiklerindeki değişim ayrı bir önem arz etmektedir. Modernleşme çabasındaki Türkiye’nin toplumsal bir yansıması ve etkileyeni olarak görülen sinema, toplumsal gerçekçi bakış açısına oturtularak, 1950-1960 dönemi Türk sineması yapısı ve gündelik hayat değişimlerindeki yeri tartışılmıştır. Makalenin amacı, modernleşmeci seçkinlerin gündelik hayat pratiklerine dair etkilerini göstermek ve bunları sinema aracılığıyla somutlaştırmaktır. Örneklem olarak İstanbul Geceleri (1950) filmi bu dönem içerisinden konuyla ilişkisi bağlamında rastgele seçilmiş ve Kracauer'in sinemanın kaydetme ve ifşa etme işlevlerine sahip olduğu görüşünden yararlanılarak sosyolojik analiz yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Böylece, 1950'li yıllarda Türk toplumunun gündelik hayat pratiklerinde yaşadığı değişimler, sinema ilişkisi üzerinden gösterilmiştir.
