Özet:

This research is a descriptive study to determine the difficulties caused by the clothes during the dressing and clothing preferences of special needs students based on the views of their families and educators. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach in the survey model. The sample of the study is consisted of 230 families and teachers’ accepted participating the research and whose children continue to the Training Application and Work Training Centers and the Rehabilitation Centers located within the borders of Ankara, Eskişehir, Konya, Istanbul, Tekirdag, Izmir, Van and Adana. Survey data were collected by using the questionnaire " Dressing problems caused by the clothes and clothing preferences of children with Down's syndrome” and the questionnaire of “Determining the problems caused by clothes in dressing skills of children with cerebral palsied” (SP)". In the analysis of the data, frequencies and percentages were also used. According to the results of the research, students with special needs do not want to wear clothes for the second time, and they need clothes that will make movement easier for dressing that is more independent. The fact that the dress has the characteristics (color, decoration) that will attract the attention of the students increases the participation in their dress. However that children spend more time than usual in dressing and undressing. Problems that arise from the form of clothes in the problems of dressing and undressing of the students are not much effective. When the parents choosing clothes for students with mental disabilities, they should consider the clothes to fit the body structure, needs, economic condition, easy to dressing and undress, suitability to the part of the body to be dressing, quality and to be seen as aesthetics. Parents do not pay more attention to appropriate fashion and brand of the clothes. Most of the students with special needs who recognizing shirt, trousers, socks, sweater, and similar types of clothes have been meaning the shirt sleeves, edge of the trousers, collar of shirts and so on the parts of clothes. Most of the students wear on and take off clothes without help, and they can largely distinguish the fronts and backs of the clothes and the reverse the face they wear. They can open and close the zipper on the clothes, switch on the buttons in the clothes, open and close the knobs, easily open and close the velcro straps in the clothes. The vast majority of the students have difficulties in closing the agraffe and clasps that are present in the clothes. Most of students who are getting a problem in dressing process based on clothes having difficulties getting to the other stages of the dressing process and have been affected by the situation.
