This study aims exploring the importance of using social media in political communication as a provider of political information and as a channel for two-way political communication between the voters and candidates. For this purpose, datas gathered from a field survey conducted shortly after Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) 2013 General Election were analyzed with descriptive methods. In conclusion, it was found that social media has become an important medium that increases the frequency of sharing political information, claim and view. In this context, it was also found that using social media in political communication is playing an important role for a more functional democracy as proposed in the mobilization theory which is based on the liberal theory
