Basic aim of this study was to determine primary and secondary school students’ perspectives on effects of award and punishment on religious education and teaching. Samples were selected by easy availability sampling from 8 different schools in city center of Agri province. The data were gathered from 179 students by using survey technique. The survey was prepared by the researcher and consists of 38 questions. The results were as follows. It can be concluded as almost all students received religious education from their parents during pre-school ages and parents mostly gave religious education with “tolerance and inspiring interest”. Religious education commonly given at Koran courses. We concluded as similar to parents, religious education is given with same technique in these places. It can be also concluded that Education of Religion and Ethics course is enjoyed by students and students find this course period not enough. Most of the students agreed on Education of Religion and Ethics course is effective on peer relations, respecting parents and being good natured and ethical. When effects of award and punishment on religious education and teaching is examined, students stated that punishment should be removed from not only religious education but all other fields of education, punishment can cause a dislike to course, when they are successful award will motivate them and when religious education is given by awards instead of punishment it will be more effective.
