Abstract:

There is a widespread view that the leading productions of my mother-in-law cinema, primarily commercial American cinema, are the speaker and reproducer of the current dominant ideological and political climate. Despite this, it is often suggested that there are examples that put themselves in a critical position, despite the fact that my mother is a film product. The Truman Show and the Into the Wild films are also defined as critical examples of the cinema with its conflict relationships and history. This study will suggest that the two films have a semantic relationship based on the conflict relationships, and the ethical and ideological values presented in the main ideas of the films will be assessed as related to the transformation of capitalism. From the last quarter of the twentieth century, various theories are suggested that modern capitalism has entered into a transformation process. In this study, the transformation of the concept of "disciplinary societies" by Michel Foucault and the history of the films chosen by addressing the context of neoliberal governance that replaced these social organizations will be evaluated in such a way that corresponds to this debate. So there will be a process of comparison between the critical arguments of the films and the transformation of capitalism. In the context of the transformation, considering the institutions abandoned by capitalism and the new subjects produced, it will be suggested that the Truman Show and Into the Wild films are not critical, contain a history in line with the dominant political climate and the dynamics of conflict.
