Abstract:

Prozodi is the melody of the language. The melodicity of readings positively affects their ability to read fluently and understand what they read. This study aims to study the relationship between primary school 4th grade students’ prozotic reading skills and their understanding of reading skills. The research was carried out in the screening model. The research study group consists of 25 primary school 4th grade students studying in the 2016-2017 educational year at a primary school in the province of Bartin. The study used the "Prozodic Reading Scale" developed by Keskin, Baştuğ and Akyol (2013) as a data collection tool to measure students' prozotic reading skills. The text "Ladesçi" in the Turkish curriculum was used in order to determine the students' prozodic reading skills. In order to measure the skills of students to understand what they read, Sulak (2014) developed the "Edison Lamp Finds Text Reading Understanding Test" has been used. The research data were applied to Man Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis analysis, Spearman's rho ratio was calculated. The data has been tested at 0.05 significance level. It is also used to identify statistics. In the study, there was a meaningful relationship between the students’ prozotic reading levels and the level of understanding that they read at a weak, positive and 0.05 manitary level (r=0.424; p<0.05); the study was attended by 25 primary schools 4. 7 (28%) of the classmates were not sufficient in terms of prozotic reading skills, while 18 (72%) were sufficient in terms of prozotic reading skills; gender had no influence on prozotic reading skills; prozotic reading skills had significant differences according to the number of words read in 1 minute.
