Abstract:

Original scientific contributions of Carl Gustav Jung, a psychophysiologist, such as psychological typing, theory of complexes and word association test are still present in the current psychology and psychiatry. Jung calls the legacy which continues to exist from the past to the present and is present in the collective unconscious of each human being archetype. He emphasizes that everybody inherits this legacy which can be considered as the first model. Persona and Shadow are among the most important archetypes in Carl Gustav Jung's collective unconscious theory. While persona is defined as a mask worn by the person towards the outside world, shadow is defined as the first self which is suppressed outside consciousness because it is not welcomed by human, society and civilization. This article will primarily attempt to define Jung's persona and shadow archetypes, then to interpret the relationship between these archetypes and Alan Strang, Kuheylan's main character.
