Abstract:

The objective of this study is to identify the fields and periods of the fields of the German Language Education (2006/2007 YÖK) programmes in Turkey. The reason especially for the field elective courses being taken to the center of the study is that the field elective courses are addressing the field and distinctive. In the study, the method of content analysis was used. The university of study is located in Turkey in 13 universities that form a curriculum pool of German Language Education Bachelor's programs. The examples of these universities are the field-selective courses in the classroom. The data used in the study was obtained from the class pool on the university’s own web pages. The courses to be analyzed are classified in 13 field categories. These are ranked in the form of Grammer, Country Knowledge (German History and/or Culture), Computer-Supported Foreign Language, Translation, Literature, Professional German (Tourism, Commercial German), Scenic Arts (Cinema, Theatre, Drama), Basic Four Skills Courses (Read, Writing, Listening, Understanding), Languages, Philosophy, Media-Communication and Other Categories (German Learning and Teaching Activities, Measurement Assessment). The data was analyzed using the SPSS23 method. The study consists of two parts: theory and practice. The first part of the study will refer to the historic development of the educational faculty in Turkey, and the next part will include information on German Language Education. This section will refer to the content of the selectively field courses and the change in time. In the second part of the study, the data obtained were visually ranked on the basis of universities. In the results section, the data obtained was interpreted and presented in recommendations.

Abstract:

This study aims to identify field elective courses, their areas and academic terms that are offered by German Language Education undergraduate programs (2006/2007 CoHE) in Turkey. As elective courses appeal to the field and they are distinctive, the present study particularly focuses on them. Content analysis method was used in the study. The population of the study involved the course pools of German Language Education undergraduate programs which are active and offered by 14 universities in Turkey. The sample consisted of in-field elective courses in the course pools of these programs. Data used in the study were obtained from the universities' web-pages. The courses, which will be analyzed, are classified into 11 field categories. These are Grammar, Country Knowledge (German History and / or Culture), Computer Assisted Foreign Language, Translation, Literature (Philosophy), Professional German (Tourism, Business German), Performing Arts (Cinema, Theatre, Drama), Four Basic Language Skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Comprehension), Linguistics, Media-Communication and Other Categories (Activities for German Learning and Teaching, Assessment and Evaluation). SPSS 23.0 was used for data analysis. The study consists of two parts: theory and practice. In the first part of the study, historical development of education faculties in Turkey will be discussed. Subsequently, information towards German Language Education will be presented. In this part, the content of field elective courses and their change over time will be mentioned. In the second part of the study, the data are visually listed on the basis of the universities. In the conclusion part, the data obtained are interpreted and suggestions are put forward.
