Bu çalışmada, özellikle Çin’in yükselişi göz önüne alarak, Çin ile Amerika Birleşik Devletleri arasındaki ilişkilerin gelişimine dair teorik açıklamalar irdelenmiştir. Teorik açıklamaların sunmuş olduğu perspektiften yola çıkarak bu iki ülke arasındaki ilişkilerin hem bugününe hem de yarınına ışık tutulmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada uluslararası ilişkiler teorilerinin bu iki devlet arasındaki ilişkileri, hangi yaklaşım ve doneler üzerinden yorumladığı, teorilerin tutarlı olduğu ya da eksik kaldığı noktaların neler olduğu ve hangi yaklaşımın daha açıklayıcı bir düzlem sunduğu gibi sorulara cevaplar aranmıştır. Bu anlamda öncelikle geleneksel teoriler olan realizm ve liberalizmin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ile Çin arasındaki ilişkilere yönelik yaklaşımlarına bakılmış ardından sosyal inşacı yaklaşım çerçevesinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri-Çin ilişkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Bu minvalde, realist öngörünün güvensizlik ve sıfır toplamlı oyun temelli bakış açısının ve liberal öngörünün iş birliği temelli iyimser bakış açısının, bazı önemli noktalara dikkat çekmekle birlikte, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri-Çin ilişkilerini analiz etmede eksik olduğu ileri sürülmüştür. Sosyal inşacı yaklaşımın ise düşünsel unsurları dahil ederek, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri-Çin ilişkilerinin analizinde daha kapsayıcı ve doğru bir bakış açısı sunduğu belirtilmiştir. Bu minvalde iki ülke arasındaki ilişkilerin küresel düzen kurma, ideolojik üstünlük sağlama ve sosyal kimliklerini teyit etme gibi düşünsel unsurlar üzerinden şekillendiği belirtilmiştir. Çalışmada yöntemsel olarak ise belge ve söylem analizinden yararlanılmış; teoriler karşılaştırmalı olarak irdelenmiş, nicel ve nicel yöntemler kullanılmıştır.
In this study, theoretical explanations about the development of relations between China and the United States of America are examined, especially considering the rise of China. Based on the perspective presented by the theoretical explanations, it has been tried to shed light on the present and the future of the relations between these two countries. The study sought answers to questions such as which approaches and data interpret the relations between these two states by the international relations theories, the points where the theories are consistent or lacking, and which approach offers a more explanatory platform. In this sense, first of all, the approaches of realism and liberalism, which are traditional theories, towards the relations between the United States of America and China were examined. Then the United States-China relations were evaluated within the framework of the social constructivist approach. In this context, it has been argued that the distrust and zero-sum game-based perspective of realist forecasting and the cooperative optimistic perspective of liberal forecasting, although drawing attention to some crucial points, are lacking in analyzing the United States-China relations. It is stated that the social constructivist approach, by including ideational elements, offers a more inclusive and correct perspective in the analysis of the United States-China relations. In this respect, it has been stated that the relations between the two countries are shaped by ideational elements such as establishing a global order, gaining ideological superiority, and confirming their social identities. The study used Document and discourse analysis methodically; theories were examined comparatively, and quantitative and quantitative methods were used.
