Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the views of supervisors and supervisees regarding supervisor feedback given in the Individual Counseling Practice Course in the Guidance and Counseling Undergraduate Program at various universities in Turkey. The data of the study were obtained from 11 supervisors and 30 supervisees via online semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed by content analysis. The findings indicated that the focus of feedback was mainly on counseling skills and self awareness and the most frequently used techniques were transcriptionsi audio/video recordings, forms and experiential tecniques. Results showed that the supervisors mostly gave supportive feedbacks, these feedbacks were affected by the factors related to supervisor, the counselor trainee and supervision process; and supervisor feedbacks had various effects on counselor trainees and also on the supervisory relationship. The characteristics of effective feedback were listed by participants as clear, balanced, adequate, concrete, regular, constructive and appropriate for trainees’ developmental level.
