Abstract:

Obesity is a pathological disorder that occurs as a result of an abnormal fat accumulation in the body. Obesity, which has reached the prevalence of epidemic levels worldwide, is facing us as a serious public health problem in the 21st century. Obesity has risen as well as in developed countries in Turkey, along with the changes in eating habits and socio-economic situation. Especially in women of reproductive age, the frequency of overweight and obesity is increasing. Maternal obesity affects the health of the mother in the preconceptional, pregnancy, intrapartum and postpartum period. Thromboembolism during pregnancy, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, extension of action at the moment of childbirth, and caesarine birth in postpartum period can lead to embolism, bleeding, wound infections and difficulty in ineffective breastfeeding. Pregnants, who are a professional health care practitioner, should ensure ideal weight control for pregnant women in the preconceptional, antenatal and postpartum period and take measures regarding maternal risks. Pregnancy should primarily provide obese woman with effective and quality care before pregnancy. In the period of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, they should minimize the maternal complications of obesity with individualized care. This collection aims to provide the reader with the current information on the effects of pregnancy, pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum pregnancy on maternal-fetal health, prevalence in the world and in Turkey, pregnancy in the obstetric pregnancy care and management.
