Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to investigate and study the opinions of students from the German Language Literature Department, who are forced to take degree courses with distance learning during the pandemic period on the survey questions about distance learning. Answers to the survey applied to all students of the German Language and Literature Department by the German Language and Literature Department of Sakarya University have been analyzed and interpreted. In addition to the students’ answers, the teachers also discussed their opinions. The answers of 136 students involved in the survey were analyzed using the SPSS application and interpreted by creating tables according to this. Students have generally expressed negative opinions on the questions about the continuation of distance learning after the pandemic period Students do not consider taking lessons with distance learning after the pandemic period. Despite this, students have also given positive answers to questions such as the impact of the exams on the state of success, the efficiency of the courses, the interaction, and the motivation. To contradictory or incompatible answers on this issue, pandemic conditions can have a significant impact on the socio-psychological atmosphere. Students stay away from social life, campus environment, friends environment, etc. The absence of activities, such as the limitation of their freedoms, may have had a significant impact on the answers to the survey questions. This situation was not reflected in the research due to questions that were not questioned in the research. Since the subject of the research is limited to the content of the courses, external factors are left out of the research. While distance learning has emerged as an obligation, students have easily adapted to the new situation and are still continuing in this way. There is no criticism of students about participating in distance learning. In addition to the conditions of the pandemic period, the advantages and disadvantages in giving lessons with distance learning that have never been given before have also given an idea about the adaptation of students to the situation. With this study, if the pandemic continues or similar conditions arise, information has been revealed to keep the light of the missing aspects of distance education, the aspects to be improved, the studies to be carried out to be assessed in terms of learning achievements. As a result of the study, the deficiencies in the topics that the students report the opinion were identified, the results were presented, the results were compared with the responses given by the teachers, and the recommendations for improvement were evaluated.
