Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the relationship between the social skills levels of children and the empathic skills of their mothers. According to this purpose, the research has been carried out with 103 children and their mothers who go to their official independent kindergartens in Shanlıurfa, Suruç district and the maternities of the official primary school. The study used the “Personal Information Form” as a means of data collection; to obtain demographic information about mothers and children; the “Social Skills Scale” to demonstrate children’s social skills levels; and the “Empatic Skills Scale” to measure mothers’ empathic skills. The data obtained by the implementation of data collection tools were analyzed in the SPPS package program. According to the number of categories in the analyses, t tests were used with one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) for independent samples. The Tukey HSD test was used to determine which groups of significant differences arise from the results of the analysis. The study found that the level of social skills of the child varied statistically significantly according to age and gender (p<0,05) and that the level of empathy of the mothers did not lead to significant differences in age, learning and working conditions (p>0,05). Another study found that there was no meaningful relationship between children’s social skills and their mothers’ empathy skills (p>0,05).
