Abstract:

Epithelial carcinoma is the most common histologic type (90%) of ovarian, fallopian tube and peritoneal cancer. It is typically diagnosed at an advanced stage, which leads to a poor long-term prognosis. Epithelial carcinoma is linked to BRCA 1 and 2 mutations. 15% of carriers, will develop ovarian cancer. Among its four histological subtypes, low grade carcinoma is less common. we report the case of a low grade ovarian carinoma in a 30-years-old woman, with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, admitted to the emergency room with high-intensity pelvic-abdominal pain, bloating and ascites. The imaging exam, revealing a huge abdominal mass, followed by surgery and histopathological diagnosis, confirmed: bilateral ovarian cystadenocarcinoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis, stage IIIC. Adjuvant systemic chemotherapy was therefore administrated. After a disease-free interval of 8 months, the patient relapsed with brain metastases. Taking into account family history, early onset of the disease and the histological subtype, as poor prognostic factors, its rapid progression was to be expected.
