Bir üçüncü basamak hastanesine ateş ile başvuran hasta enfeksiyon kaynağı araştırılmak üzere takip edildi. Hastada toplum kaynaklı bir enfeksiyon kaynağı görüldü, bakteriyemide etken olarak Klebsiella variicola (K. variicola) saptandı. K. variicola sporadik enfeksiyonlara ya da salgınlara yol açabilmektedir. Olguda sunduğumuz izolat duyarlı bir suş olmasına rağmen ilerleyen dönemlerde dirençli suşların gelişebilmesine yol açabileceği için önem arz etmektedir. Bu durumda etkenin sağlıklı tespit edilmesi ve tanımlanmasında kolay uygulanabilecek sistemlere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır.
The patient who was admitted to a tertiary hospital with fever was followed up to investigate the source of infection. A community-acquired source of infection was observed in the patient, and Klebsiella variicola was found to be the causative agent in bacteremia. K. variicola can cause sporadic infections or epidemics. Although the isolate we presented in our case is a susceptible strain, it is thought that resistant strains can develop and this may pose a problem in the future. In this case, easy-to-apply systems are needed to detect and identify the causative agent.
