Abstract:

Thanks to the penetrating power of the mass media, the distance between the source and the target audience has decreased and it has become easier to reach large masses. On the other hand, in line with the possibilities offered by the mass media, among many other things, public diplomacy activities have intensified. In this context, the TRT Avaz television channel was established on March 21, 2009 in order to broadcast television broadcasts for Turkish-speaking communities outside the political borders of Turkey and to carry out public diplomacy activities. Within the scope of the study, the news program Eurasia Agenda broadcast on TRT Avaz television channel was determined as the research universe and the program contents broadcast during the Karabakh War between Azerbaijan and Armenia (27 September-10 November 2020) were examined as a research sample. Accordingly, in the content of forty-four programs consisting of news, comments and expert opinions, positive statements about Azerbaijan and critical statements about Armenia were filtered and subjected to discourse analysis from the perspective of public diplomacy. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the contents analyzed as a research sample, in general terms, are compatible with the foreign political discourse between the states of Turkey and Azerbaijan, and contain critical elements supported by various arguments against the discourse of the Armenian state.
