Abstract:

The aim of the study is to reveal the relationship between the mathematical beliefs of secondary school students and their mathematical resilience.. The study was designed in a quantitative research design. Among the quantitative research methods, causal comparison and correlational study methods were used. The sample of the study consists of 191 (one hundred and ninety-one) middle school students. Data collection tools of the research are “Mathematics Belief Scale” developed by Yıldız and Çiftçi (2020) and the “Mathematical Resilience Scale” adapted into Turkish by Durmaz and Girit-Yıldız (2018). SPSS 20 statistical program was used for data analysis. First, it was examined whether the data were normally distributed. Then, correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between mathematical belief and mathematical resilience. The sub-dimensions of both scales were analyzed by using correlation analysis. Regression analysis was used to examine the prediction of mathematical resilience of belief in mathematics. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the sub-dimensions of the scale of belief in mathematics and the prediction of mathematical resilience. As a result of the study, a statistically significant positive moderate correlation was found between belief in mathematics and mathematical resilience. Another result is that belief in mathematics significantly predicts mathematical resilience in a positive way.
