Özet:

The primary objective of the current study is to discover the impact of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) on vocabulary learning of EFL learners at primary level in Pakistan, and to examine the efficiency of PWIM for vocabulary building in comparison with Grammar Translation Method (GTM). To maintain the interest of the students, it is imperative to adopt interesting and novel ways of teaching vocabulary. For this purpose, experimental and controlled groups from grade five were selected via cluster random sampling technique. Later experimental group was taught via PWIM and controlled group was taught via GTM. Test/retest and questionnaires were used as data collection tools. The researchers collected data from 120 students belonging to three government schools of Pind Dadan Khan and sought opinion from 76 EFL primary level teachers. Experimental group and controlled group were taught for three weeks. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS. Based on the results of posttest and opinions of teachers expressed via questionnaire, it can be concluded that there is positive role of PWIM for vocabulary building of EFL primary level learners in Pakistani context and PWIM is more effective for vocabulary learning as compared to GTM. The research is the first of its kind to study the effects of PWIM on vocabulary building of primary school EFL learners in Pakistan. The study would guide the teachers about the use of PWIM. It would be useful for students to learn basic language skills of English language effectively and to strengthen their creative and visionary faculties. It would further provide guideline to policy makers and curriculum designers for effective syllabus design according to personal and future needs of the students.
