Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu Olan Çocukların Eğitsel Değerlendirme ve Tanılıma Süreçlerinin İncelenmesi

Otizm spektrum bozukluğu (OSB) olan çocukların eğitsel değerlendirme ve tanılama sürecinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılan araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden görüşme tekniği ve doküman analizi tekniği tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmaya 12 çocuk ve ergen psikiyatristi, 12 Rehberlik ve Araştırma Merkezi (RAM) çalışanı, OSB olan bireye sahip 12 ebeveyn katılmıştır. Bununla birlikte 2019-2021 yıllarında bir RAM’da OSB tanısı almış 54 öğrenci dosyası araştırmaya dahil edilmiştir. Araştırma verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme ve dosya inceleme formları ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz tekniğiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda ailelerin, tipik OSB belirtilerine dair şüphelerle sağlık kurumlarına başvurdukları, tıbbi tanılama ve eğitsel tanılamada çoğunlukla gözlem ve görüşme yapılarak informal araçların kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Ek olarak bilişsel becerileri değerlendirmek için standart zeka testlerinden ve gelişim testlerinden yararlandıkları belirlenmiştir. OSB’yi değerlendirmek üzere hazırlanan Türkçeye uyarlanmış araçların kullanılmadığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca araştırma sonucunda OSB olan bireye sahip ailelerin tanılama süreci boyunca birçok alanda desteğe ihtiyaç duydukları görülmüştür.

Review of the educational assessment and recognition processes of children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract:

A quality research method has been used for the purpose of studying the educational assessment and recognition process of children with autism spectrum disorder (OSB). Qualitative research methods have been preferred by the interview technique and the document analysis technique. The study included 12 children and adolescent psychiatrists, 12 staff of the Guidelines and Research Center (RAM), 12 parents with the OSB individual. However, 54 student files diagnosed with OSB in a RAM in 2019-2021 were included in the research. The research data was collected through semi-configured interviews and file review forms. The data obtained was analyzed using the visual analysis technique. The research has shown that families with suspicions of typical OSB signs appeal to health institutions, medical diagnosis and educational diagnosis often used informal means of observation and conversation. In addition, they have been determined to take advantage of standard intelligence tests and development tests to evaluate cognitive skills. It has not been seen the vehicles adapted to Turkey prepared to assess the OSB. The research also found that families with OSB individuals needed support in many areas throughout the identification process.

Qualitative research methods have been used in the research conducted in order to examine the educational evaluation and diagnosis process of children with autism spectrum disorder. Among the qualitative research methods, interview and document analysis techniques were utilized. 12 children and adolescents psychiatrists, 12 Guidance and Research Center (RAM) employees, and 12 parents of individuals with ASD participated in the study. In addition, 54 students’ files diagnosed with ASD in a RAM between 2019-2021 were added to the study. Research data were collected with semi-structured interview and file review forms. The obtained data have been analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the research, families applied to health institutions with suspicions about typical ASD symptoms, and informal tools were used mostly by observation and interview in medical and educational diagnosis. In addition, it was determined that they benefited from standard intelligence tests and developmental tests  to evaluate cognitive skills. It was observed that the tools adapted to Turkish, which were prepared to evaluate ASD, were not used. As a result of the research, it was seen that families with a person diagnosed with ASD needed support in many areas during the process.
