Purpose– Studies that examined the association between personality traits and employees’ performance in respect of hotels in Lagos state are under-reported. This study therefore filled this research gap. Research Methodology– The study used survey design hence, through on-site approach collected data from 332 employees of 60 hotels in Lagos state. Partial Least Squares were adopted for the analysis. Findings– The result show that three of the five tested hypotheses were supported. It further shows that all the five dimensions of personality traits considered in this study have the tendency of influencing 89.8% of changes in employees’ performance. Research Implications– By confirming the link between personality traits and employees’ performance, this study offers an insight on personality traits that stimulate hotel performance. Managers of hotel business can maximise employees’ performance by implementing human resources policies gear towards recruitment of staff that believes in teamwork and team-building including, training of staff to imbibe the culture of forgiveness, and acceptance of others’ view. Again, sociable and enthusiasm staff should be assigned to strategic frontline units of the hotel. Originality/value– To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to validate the connection between personality traits and employees’ performance in respect to hotels in Lagos state using Smart PLS_SEM approach. The study argues that hotel performance depends on the extent staff exhibits attributes such as conscientiousness, extraversion, and openness to experience on the job.
