Dijital Romantizm: Y Kusaginin Romantik İliskilerinde Sosyal Medyanin Rolu Uzerine Bir Arastirma:

While social media with its improving technology plays an important role among generations, within the scope of romantic relationship it is highly effective especially between generation Y people. It’s been widely acknowledged that members of generation Y use social media frequently and effectively. Social media has more impact on generation Y than the other generations. This impact is not only limited to activities such as content creation, sharing, socializing, staying connected, interacting, making friends, streaming information, and learning. In fact, along with increasing use of social media, couples are more likely to show their romantic relationships through social media since it is a platform where anybody can show their relationship publicly. Romantic couples who bring social media as a primary part of their daily life, do not only use social media for announcing and expressing their relationships, but also to monitor, control and retrieve information about their partners. This study seeks how social media influences romantic relationships, and seeks the role of social media in romantic practices of genaration Y individuals. A survey was conducted to a sample group of 406 people who represents generation Y. Findings reveal that there is no significant difference between jealousy and surveillance behaviors and gender groups. However findings show that the most jealous group consists of single and individuals with no relations. Jealousy and surveillance behaviors among unmarried couples are higher than married couples. Findings reveals that the tendency of jealousy and surveillance decrease over the ages.
