To follow the rapid changes on land use is of great importance in terms of creating sustainable-planned land use patterns. In this study, transformation of land use through years of 1984-2010 in Seferihisar, and solution suggestions were made within the scope of the obtained results. In Seferihisar within the period of 27 years, decrease in areas of forest and pasture occured, whereas a notable increase in settlement areas took place. Decrease in forest areas is relevant to expansion of settlement areas and dams-ponds against forest-pasture areas. In decreasing pasture areas, in addition to the mentioned reasons, creating of citrus gardens on basin floor, and of relatively vineyards and olive groves on high areas became influential. Decrease in agriculture areas is related to the dense secondary homehousing which has continued since 1985, today, and to mass housing works which started in 1990's. There is a noncompatibility between land capability classes and land use on the study area. Continuing since 1985 until today, housings of the secondary home-the mass housing aren’t suitable to the natural environment potential of the area. * Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, Buca Eğitim Fakültesi, İlköğretim Bölümü, 35150, Buca / İZMİR, gulersoy74@gmail.comThe current land use pattern in Seferihisar should be shaped according to natural environment potential, and plans for the future should be prepared in cooperation of local public institutions and organizations with academic environments.
