The current article uses a short story by Anna Seghers, a famous German writer of the 20th century, to examine the method of text fragments in adapting a literary work. The expediency of using this method is proved by the possibility of expanding the school curriculum in literature and regional geography, its impact on the development of the communicative competence of students, and its noticeable influence on the skill of foreign language communication, which implies a constant expansion of the lexical base and the general level of language proficiency. Based on the material of the story, the article covers in detail the topics for discussion, offers lexical and grammatical tasks, and also provides a selection of quotations that clearly highlight the problematic aspects of the work.
