Tarih boyunca görülen salgın hastalıklar toplumlarda telafisi mümkün olamayacak acılara sebebiyet vermiştir. Özellikle Birinci Dünya Savaşı yıllarında düşmana karşı verilen mücadelenin yanında halkın bir de tifüs, sıtma, kolera gibi salgın hastalıklarla baş etmek durumunda kalması toplum hafızasında derin izler bırakmıştır. Maraş da bu zorlu süreci deneyimlemiş şehirlerimizden biridir. Yaşanan bu acı tecrübelerden hareketle Cumhuriyet’in ilanıyla birlikte ülke genelinde salgın hastalıkların önlenmesi adına uzun soluklu bir mücadele başlatılmıştır. Hastalıkların önlenmesi için kanunlar çıkarılmış bu kanunlar gereği alınan tedbirlerle hastalıkların önü alınmaya çalışılmıştır. İmkânlar ölçüsünde halk muayeneden geçirilmiş, hasta olduğu tespit edilenler tedavi altına alınmıştır. Bu süreçte halkın bilinçlendirilmesi de alınan tedbirler kadar önem arz etmektedir. Maraş’ta trahom, sıtma ve verem hastalığı yoğun olarak görülmüştür. Diğer taraftan Suriye’de görülen salgın hastalıklar sınır illerine sirayet ederek Maraş’ta da görülmeye başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada 1935-1960 yılları arasında Maraş’ta görülen salgın hastalıklar ve söz konusu hastalıkların ortadan kaldırılması için alınan tedbirler çok yönlü olarak ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
Epidemic diseases seen throughout history have caused pain that is not possible to compensate in communities. Especially in the years of the First World War, the struggle against the enemy left deep traces in the memory of the community that the people were also faced with epidemic diseases such as thyphus, stroke, cholera. Marsh is one of our cities that have experienced this difficult process. With this painful experience, along with the announcement of the Republic, a long-death struggle has been launched throughout the country for the prevention of epidemic diseases. For the prevention of diseases, the laws have been adopted to prevent diseases with the measures taken in accordance with these laws. People who have been treated and diagnosed as ill have been treated. In this process, the awareness of the public is as important as the measures taken. In Marrakech, trauma, scratch and verem diseases were widely observed. On the other hand, the epidemic diseases seen in Syria have also begun to be seen in Maraş by spreading to the border areas. In this study, we tried to identify the measures taken to eradicate the epidemic diseases in Maraş between 1935 and 1960 and the measures taken to eradicate the related diseases.
Epidemics has caused nonrecoverable griefs in publics throughout the history. It’s engraved in memories that people had to cope with epidemics such as; typhus, malaria and cholera in addition to the battle with the enemies. Maraş was one of our cities which experienced that hard periods. With reference to those unpleasant experiences, with the proclamation of the republic a long-term challenge was started to prevent the epidemics. Laws were made to prevent the ilnesses. It was aimed to suppress those ilnesses by precautions which were made by the laws. The public was examined as much as possible and the people,who were confirmed to be ill ,were given medical treatments. In that period, raising the awareness of the public was as important as the taken precautions. Trachoma, malaria and tuberculosis were mostly seen in Maraş. On the other hand, the epidemics which were seen in Syria were spreaded in the frontier cities and eventually seen in Maraş. In this study, It was aimed to present the epidemics which were seen in Maraş between 1935-1960 and the taken precautions to suppress these diseases multifacetedly.
