The purpose of this study is to examine faculty members’ views on organizational forgetting levels of higher education institutions. Moreover, it was also examined whether faculty members’ views on organizational forgetting levels of higher education institutions differ according to their gender, age, academic title and university. The research is a quantitative study designed by using survey model. Population of research consists of 3771 faculty members working at Anadolu, Eskisehir Osmangazi and Eskisehir Technical universities in fall semester of 2019-2020 academic year, and sample consists of 524 lecturers selected from universe by using stratified sampling method. Research data were collected with "Organizational Forgetting Scale" developed by the researchers and "Personal Information Form". Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze research data. Research results showed that faculty members evaluated higher education institutions’ accidental forgetting level as high, and their purposeful forgetting level as medium. It was determined that there are significant differences between faculty members’ views on organizational forgetting levels of higher education institutions and gender, age, academic title and university variables. According to these results, they were found that there are significant relationships between gender variable and purposeful forgetting, between age and academic title variables and accidental forgetting, and between university variable and both intentional and accidental forgetting dimensions. Based on research results, it is recommended that higher education institutions establish effective information management mechanisms and minimize high labor turnover rates in terms of appointments to managerial positions to prevent accidental forgetting. In addition, it should be ensured that institutions constantly review their organizational memories and renew them in line with up-to-date information so that higher education institutions can benefit more from purposeful forgetting.
