Comparative studies of literature are mostly carried out on poetry and fictional genres such as stories, novels, and theatre. However, in this paper, the memoirs of two authors will be evaluated comparatively. In this study, where Kırk Yıl (Forty Years, 1936) by Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil and Edebî Hatıralar (Literary Memoirs, 1935) by Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, which are important resources for the studies conducted on the Servet-i Fünûn period in Turkish Literature, will be discussed, we will try to examine how Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın is involved in Halit Ziya’s memoirs by comparing it with his own memoirs. Studies conducted on the literary life of Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, who takes part as a story writer and a novelist in the movement of Servet-i Fünûn, are more limited compared to other writers of Servet-i Fünûn movement. Both the fact that the writing of Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın was overshadowed by Halit Ziya and Mehmet Rauf, and that his ties with literature weakened after he went into journalism and politics after the 2nd Constitutional Era were effective in this. He appeared in Turkish history as a polemicist journalist and a political figure after the 2nd Constitutional Era. In this paper, which aims to benefit from the critical distance and objectivity offered by evaluating multiple works comparatively, we will try to contribute to the studies Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın’s literary identity by focusing on the activities of Servet-i Fünûn.
