Özet:

The National Independence War is the splendid fight which was given to save our country from intruders and it is the first step to build a new political entity out of  the Ottoman Empire which was de facto died out. As a matter of fact, it is the birth process of the new Turkish State. The War of independence years are one of the latest turning points in Turkish history. This period is the time when Turkish people tried to save their independence from enemies and won the battle that they had to fought off. Turkish people fought against the Armenians in the East, French in the South and Greeks who are supported by the British in the West. They saved their country at the cost of losing their lives and they achieved to have their names written in the history with letters of gold. The war was won with great difficulties and all institutions did their share successfully. One of such institutions is the health organization. In the reconstruction process that started after the establishment of the Great National Assembly of Turkey, significant changes took place in the field of health. New regulations were introduced to meet the health-care requirements of the soldiers. While the health organization was reconstructed, the War of Independence broke out. Hence, the health-care requirements of both the soldiers in the frontiers and the civilians in the hinterland were taken care of meticulously. Nevertheless, despite all precautions, many soldiers lost their lives either because of the diseases or during the battles.  Health units of the time recorded the list of the soldiers who died either as a result of diseases or was killed during the war. They wanted to find out how many soldiers were martyred in what are areas of the country.
