In this study, the opinion of classroom and pre-school teachers about the home visits, which are one of the techniques to understand the students and their environment, were identified. Here, among the qualitative research methods, the semi-structured interview method was employed. The interviews were made with 10 primary school teachers and 7 preschool teachers during the study. The results revealed that the home visits have a positive effect in terms of understanding the student. The teachers stated that, even for a little while, they had an opportunity to observe the parents’ attitudes towards each other or their children. By obtaining information about students’ home environment during these visits, the teacher thought that they had detailed information about the socio-economic conditions of students. It was determined that personally observing the conditions of student in terms of the information provided by student information forms is more effective in understanding the conditions, in which the child lives. It was found that such visits make it easier to understand and solve the student’s mental and social problems, to understand their needs and (if any) the issues they can’t tell.
