Cahiliye döneminde konuşmada kullanılan seciʻ, zamanla kitap yazımında da tercih edilmeye başlanmıştır. Özellikle “makâme”lerde, kitapların mukaddimelerinde ve duâlarda sıkça başvurulan bir tarz olmuştur. Muhatabı etkilemek maksadıyla şiirin dışında da vezin ve kafiyeyle ifadeler süslenmeye çalışılmıştır. Vaaz ve hutbelerde de seciʻi kullanılmıştır. Tasavvufî çevreler duygulara daha çok nüfuz ederek insanları irşad edebilmek amacıyla seciʻin sanat yönünden yararlanmışlardır. Bunun doğal bir uzantısı olarak işârî tefsir yazan tasavvuf erbabından bazı âlimler bu üslubu tefsir kitaplarına yansıtmışlardır. Tefsir kitaplarıyla, onlarla ilgili yazılan tezlerin ve makalelerin taranması sonucunda Kuşeyrî, Necmeddîn Dâye, İzzuddîn b. Abdusselâm, Niʻmetullah en-Nahcuvânî ve İbn Acîbe’nin tefsirlerinde sıkça; İbn Korkmaz’ın Fethu’r-rahmân’ın bazı kısımlarını, Nesru’l-cumân’ın ise tamamını seciʻli üslupla yazdıkları tespit edilmiştir. Bu müfessirler daha çok mutarraf ve mütevâzî, bazen murassaʻ tarzında fıkralar kaleme almışlardır. Şiirde kullanılan tarsiʻ sanatını bazen, seciʻin diğer çeşitlerini de nadiren ifadelerine yansıtmışlardır. Estetiği sağlama düşüncesiyle müfessirler sözü bazen uzatmış olsalar bile seciʻ tarzını tefsirlerinde tercih etmeleri önemlidir.
