Income inequality is one of the major problems of today’s economies. The causes of income inequality are studied in literature in two groups as traditional and new causes. Direct foreign investments, which are among the new causes, influence income inequality depending on the economic structure of the countries and the structure of the sector in which they come. In this study, the impact of foreign direct investments on income inequality with the employment channel was studied. The basic hypothesis of the study based on the basic sectors is defined as "direct foreign investments have an increase in income inequality in the work-intense sectors, reducing income inequality in the technology-intense sectors." To measure the impact of sectoral direct foreign investments on income inequality, panel data analysis was conducted using data from the period 1999-2011 of selected developed countries. According to the results of the analysis, the basic hypothesis was confirmed only for the service sector in the selected country group. The basic hypothesis is not confirmed in the developed countries because the share of high income in the primary sector is likely to be higher, while in the manufacturing sector, the basic hypothesis is not confirmed because the wages remain below average wages.
