The history of translation and publication of the works of Russian literature in Turkey dates back to the XIX century. At that time, European literature and especially French literature were translated into Turkish extensively. The Russian literature also attracted attention by literary and intellectual people. Russian literature, which was translated into Turkish, was generally translated from French and English, with the exception of a few works which were translated into Turkish from the Russian original. Each translation is the product of its own period. The first translations pursued the aim of acquainting the Turkish public with the works of Russian writers. And they were translated from French or from English. The works translated from the intermediary language were subjected to many losses. The mistakes made during the translation of Russian works into French or English were repeated in Turkish translations made from those languages. The Turkish translators, who were unfamiliar with the original, had to repeat the same mistakes. In spite of this, the translation activities of the works of Russian literature into Turkish developed day by day and and by the 30’s of the 20th century it was found widespread prevalence. In this article, we will touch on the state of publishing in Turkey at the end of the XIXth century at the beginning of the XXth century, tell about a translation into Turkish and edition of Tolstoy's "Kreutzer Sonata" in 1922. The translation of this work carried out by Ahmet Salâhattin who gave to the work the name “Pathetic Adventure”. And thus the name of this work were remained secret for eighty-five years.
