After prolonged discussions in Britain, Navy Minister Winston Churchill convinced War Council to attack Gallipoli. Following this decision, the British have studied their plans to pass the Dardanelles. Despite being on the brink of war, there was only a report from the German Admiral Schack for the defense of the Dardanelles. Cevat Pasha focused on the defense plans of the Dardanelles since his appointment to the Dardanelles Fortified Area Command. Schack's plan was replaced by a new plan. The plan prepared by the Fortified Area Command under the command of Cevat Pasha and the precautions based on this plan provided a great victory on March 18 against the enemy bombardment which began on February 19, 1915.
