Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of the field practice on school psychological counselor self-efficacy of psychological counselor candidates and whether this effect differed according to sex. The study was conducted in Uludag University and Ondokuz Mayıs University in the 2015-2016 academic year with the participation of students studying in the fourth grade (n = 155). The data collection tool was "School Psychological Counselor's Self-Efficacy Scale" and ‘Survey Form’ which was used to get opinions about internship experiences. Pre-tests were applied to senior students of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance before they received the  "institutional field experience" lesson they practice on the field. The final tests were applied at the end of the semester. "T test for related samples" was conducted to determine whether the school counselor self-efficacy perceptions of candidates for psychological counselors differed before and after the "institutional field experience " course. As a result, the self-efficacy perceptions of the school counselor increased significantly (p <.05) after field practice of psychological counselor candidates. In addition, it was determined that the self-efficacy perceptions of the school counselor did not differ significantly according to sex. In addition to this, a significant number of the psychological counselors who participated in the study stated that they did not find the work done within the scope of the field practice lesson satisfactory although they found their self-sufficiency high. The findings are discussed in the light of literature.
