Abstract:

The meaning of a word can be marked and intensified through various ways in Turkish; particularly adjectives and adverbs’ meanings are increased via intensivity Such a usage has a wide usage scope in both historical and contemporary Turkic written languages When the texts related with written languages are examined it can be said that these intensifications have been done via reduplication or affix On the other hand the words done with syllable reduplication have had an important place since Turkish’s first written texts Such kind of intensified words are generally created via reduplicating the first syllable of adjectives and adverbs finishing them with a consonant used for this purpose and taking it to the beginning of the word For some instances it can be observed that some other sounds are added to this structure and the intensification is extended Among the examples of intensified words done with syllable reduplication in Turkic written languages there are words either parallel or unique when compared with Turkey Turkish Thus the present study tries to identify which words are intensified through reduplication and what kind of changes these words illustrate in line with the periods in historical Turkic written languages via comparing with the standard language Key Words: reduplication intensity of meaning intensive word Old Turkic Middle Turkic Turkic languages
