Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the views of physical education teachers about physical education and sports lessons conducted with distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. The study group of the research consisted of 10 physical education and sports teachers. In the study, the participants were determined by maximum diversity sampling, taking into account gender (female/male), school level (secondary school-high school), school experience (0-10 years and 11-20 years). The research data were obtained by using a semi-structured questionnaire by interview method. The data obtained were subjected to content analysis and the teaching process (cognitive learning contents and preparations, psychomotor learning contents and preparations), assessment and evaluation practices (evaluating the learning process, evaluating the learning product), experienced problems (limited participation, technological inadequacy, teacher inadequacy, unqualified teaching), and measures to increase quality (initiatives to increase motivation, technological support, other strategies), sub-themes and codes belonging to these main themes were reached. As a result, the teachers participating in the study are of the opinion that the remote conduct of the physical education lesson does not reach the purpose of the lesson. It is considered important to provide practical training on how different teaching methods and models can be integrated into the distance education process.
