Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the opinions of the scientist candidates on the STEM activity called "prevention of tooth fractures" which is developed according to the STEM training approach and applied to the science knowledge teacher candidates. The work group of this research, in which the quality research method is used, constitutes a total of 7 science knowledge teachers candidates who study at a state university located in the Eastern Black Sea Region in the 2019-2020 educational year and take the course of Science Teaching Laboratory Applications I. The research has used semi-configured conversation questions related to STEM applications as a data collection tool. The data obtained is analyzed by content analysis. The study found that the scientific knowledge of the "bacteria and dental health" activity facilitated teachers' candidates' conceptual understanding and contributed to the acquisition of some of their 21st century skills. On the other hand, the study has found that even though teachers have mentioned a number of disadvantages related to the event, the event has mostly given them positive features, increased their motivation to the class by providing a fun environment, enabling them to participate actively during the course and enabling them to be in a learning process by doing so.
